Tornado Outbreak in Chicago

Wednesday's Devastating Twisters

On Wednesday, July 6, 2023, a severe weather outbreak brought a flurry of tornadoes to the Chicago area. The National Weather Service later confirmed that at least 11 tornadoes touched down, wreaking havoc across the region.

Multiple Touchdowns

The first wave of tornadoes struck the Chicago area in the late afternoon and early evening. At least three tornadoes were reported in the southern suburbs, including one that caused significant damage in Frankfort. Another tornado touched down in the northwest suburbs, near the town of Barrington.

As the storm system moved eastward, additional tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area. Two tornadoes were confirmed on the city's South Side, damaging homes and knocking down trees. Numerous tornado touchdowns were also reported in the northern suburbs, including in Lake County and Kenosha County.

Widespread Damage

The tornadoes caused widespread damage across the Chicago area, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Homes were damaged, trees were uprooted, and power lines were knocked down. The storms also caused power outages that affected thousands of residents.
