Tropical Storm Gordon Forms in Atlantic, Hurricane Forecasters Eye Track

Storm Expected to Strengthen, Could Bring Heavy Rains and Storm Surge to Gulf Coast

National Hurricane Center Advises Coastal Residents to Monitor Storm's Progress

Tropical Storm Gordon has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, and forecasters are closely monitoring its track as it approaches the Gulf Coast. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a tropical storm warning for the coast of Louisiana from Cameron to the mouth of the Mississippi River.

As of 8 a.m. CDT, Gordon was located about 485 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and was moving northwest at 14 mph. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, and the NHC expects it to strengthen into a hurricane by late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Gordon is expected to bring heavy rains and a storm surge of up to 4 feet to the Gulf Coast, from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. The NHC advises coastal residents to monitor the storm's progress and be prepared to take action if necessary.

The NHC has also issued a tropical storm watch for the coast of Mississippi from the mouth of the Pearl River to the Alabama-Florida border.

Residents in the affected areas should be prepared to evacuate if necessary. They should also have an emergency plan in place and gather supplies such as food, water, and first aid kits.

The NHC is urging coastal residents to stay informed about the storm's progress and to follow the instructions of local officials.
