Criminal Justice Reform Advocate Van Jones Shares his Thoughts
On Midterm Elections and Vigilante Justice
By Guest Author
Van Jones, a CNN commentator and criminal justice reform advocate, recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming midterm elections in 2022. Jones expressed concern that the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse could embolden vigilantes and undermine the rule of law.
"This is a scary day for America," Jones said. "This acquittal could be seen as a dangerous green light for vigilantes who might feel empowered to travel across state lines with guns to confront protesters."
Jones also discussed the importance of criminal justice reform, which he has been fighting for for over 30 years. He emphasized the need to end mass incarceration and address the systemic racism that exists within the criminal justice system.
"I never want to become desensitized to the human reality this system has on individuals," Jones said. "We need to remember that behind every statistic is a human being with a story."
Jones urged voters to use their voices in the upcoming midterm elections to support candidates who are committed to criminal justice reform and who will fight to protect the rule of law.
