California Storm Victims Qualify for Tax Relief, April 18 Deadline Extended to May

Extended Filing Deadline for Individuals

WEB WASHINGTON California storm victims now have until May 15 2023 to file various federal individual tax returns. This extension applies to victims of severe winter storms flooding landslides and mudslides that occurred between December 27 2022 and January 17 2023.

The IRS announced the extension on January 24 2023 (WEB CA-2023-02). The original filing deadline for these returns was April 18 2023.

Extended Deadline for Businesses

Taxpayers affected by these storms also qualify for an extension to October 16 2023 to file individual and business tax returns as well as make estimated tax payments. The original due date for these returns and payments was April 18 2023.
