State Tax Deadline Extension
In addition to the federal tax filing extension, the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) has also extended the state tax filing deadline for San Diego County taxpayers. The new deadline for filing both state and federal taxes is October 16, 2024.
Relief for Damaged Records
Taxpayers who were unable to file their tax returns due to damaged or destroyed records caused by the storms and flooding can request an extension from the IRS. The IRS will consider each request on a case-by-case basis. Affected taxpayers should call the IRS disaster hotline at 866-562-5227.
Filing Options
Taxpayers can file their tax returns electronically or by mail. The IRS encourages taxpayers to file electronically, as it is the fastest and most accurate way to file. Taxpayers can file electronically using tax software, through the IRS e-file website, or by hiring a tax preparer.
Extension Deadline
The extension deadline of June 17, 2024, applies only to the filing of tax returns. Tax payments are still due on the original deadline of April 15, 2024. Taxpayers who are unable to pay their taxes by the deadline should contact the IRS to make payment arrangements.
