Backup goalkeeper makes crucial saves in victory over Tottenham

Substitute Doku wins penalty to give City vital advantage

Manchester City moved to the brink of a fourth successive Premier League title after backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega produced a brilliant cameo in a 2-0 win over Tottenham on Thursday.

Ortega, who was making just his second appearance for the club, made a string of crucial saves to keep Spurs at bay and ensure that City extended their lead at the top of the table to three points with just three games remaining.

The German goalkeeper's most impressive save came in the second half when he denied Harry Kane from point-blank range. Ortega also made a superb stop to keep out a header from Son Heung-min late on.

City's victory was secured in the final minutes when substitute Jeremy Doku won a penalty after being fouled by Cristian Romero. Riyad Mahrez converted the spot-kick to seal the win.

"Stefan was incredible," said City manager Pep Guardiola. "He kept us in the game with some big saves. He has shown that he is a top goalkeeper and that we can rely on him."

"This was a big win for us," Guardiola added. "We knew that Tottenham would be a tough opponent, but we showed great character and determination to get the three points."

City's victory leaves them needing just one more win from their remaining three games to secure the title. They will face Arsenal, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final three fixtures.
